The plants I chose are vital to the whole life cycle of the butterfly. Different species of butterflies lay their eggs on different host plants. A plant one catterpillar may feed on may not be the right kind of plant to feed a different species. I select a wide variety of larva plants to ensure several species of butterfly are attracted to the garden and choose to lay their eggs there.
Next I choose nectar plants that the butterflies and bees love to feed from. These varieties entise butterflies, bees and sometimes hummingbirds to visit and have a meal.
